Car Seat Tent

So the Saturday before JD was born, I had a girls night out with a friend of mine and we ended up going to the craft store for about 2 hours. While there, I found this really cute quilt that I wanted to try and attempt, but a much smaller version of it. Here's the quilt I saw:

After much debate about what I wanted to do, and how I was going to make something like this quilt, I finally decided I wanted to make a car seat tent for JD. Thinking I had a week and a half left, I thought I'd be able to finish it. I had pieces cut out by Sunday (the night I went into labor/the day before JD was born), and was ready to start putting pieces together, except that's when I started feeling the pains in the upper portion of my stomach, and didn't get a chance to put the pieces together.

Luckily, because JD was born, my in-laws came to help us out, and my mother-in-law (who is a fabulous quilter), was able to finish the car seat for me within a few days, and it turned out so cute!!! I was happy with the way it looked! Thanks Kelly!

Have a Crafty New Year!

Happy New Year! I'm not a big fan of New Years Resolutions, because they never ever work out. This time, however, I would like to try something a little different. I've been feeling really crafty within the last month, and have been thinking and looking up tutorials on what would be fun and useful to do within this next year. I have come up with 11 craft tutorials that I want to attempt for this year, and I realize that with a new baby, being in school, and working will make this a much more challenging experience. However, I know that there are going to be days where I will just need time for myself, and this these might be the perfect activities to do while Justin watches the baby. Here's my list in no particular order:

1. Apron-Whether I use any one of these tutorials, I just want to make an apron.

2. Car Seat Cover

3. Framed Jewelery Holder

 4. Memo Board

5. Padded Chair Covers

 6. Rag Quilt

7. Throw Pillows

{Tutorial}

8. Men's Tie

 9. Tie Onesie

 10. Coat Hanger
{Tutorial}

11. Canning/Making Jam

Am I crazy for wanting to do all this in a year?... probably. Am I going to succeed?... I sure as heck hope so! I'm really excited to try these crafts out :) Wish me luck.

Baby Blanket

Ok, so I decided what baby blanket I wanted to do and here it is:

I think it turned out pretty cute, and it has ragged edges! I would've taken a close up picture, but the rag edges didn't show up very well... Oh well, I'm happy with the results.

Bow Ties & Stockings

About a month ago, under no supervision whatsoever, Justin decided to buy a bow tie. It's been he's dying wish for a while, and he finally got the darn thing. He is such a goofball, and loves it with a passion. It doesn't look as awful as I thought it would be (although, I will never say that to his face... even though I know he reads this blog). Here's a picture of the handsome fella.

One thing is for sure though... That stache has got to go.

In other news, last night I decided to be crafty and make our own Christmas Stockings. I was a little nervous about doing them, and I wanted them to be perfected so they would last us a good number of years. A project that probably could've been done within an hour, took me about 2. :)

I think they turned out pretty spiffy. :) I still want to add a few more decorations to them, not sure what yet, but Christmas is still a month away. I just hope I don't put it off. I also bought some fabric last night to do a baby blanket for J.D... at least an attempt. I'm still trying to find an easy tutorial online to try and do, I think I may have found one, but I want to be sure I can do it. I was going to do one of those "tie blankets" with fleece, but the Craft store here had flannel on sale, and I also wanted to try my hand at making a blanket.

I know he's probably going to get tons of blankets, but seriously... how can a baby go wrong with that many blankets here in Rexburg? Justin and I have been searching for jackets for newborn babies... but we still have yet to find any. We doubt that they even make them for babies their age, and figure we'll just bundle him up with butt loads of blankets when we go out.

Less than 3 months now til the mayhem begins! :)

More Crafts

So it seems I've begun to have a little passion for sewing. Within one month, I have preoccupied my spare time with various hobbies, ones I have quite enjoyed. First, it was cake decorating, then pastries, and now sewing. I am not great at any of these, but I can't say I'm horrible at sewing. So I've completed another little bag.

This bag was actually the first bag I attempted, I just finished the strings and the flower after the green bag. I'm not sure which one I like better, I think I might be leaning towards this one.

And then, I just finished this sewing machine mat. I'm quite pleased with my projects so far, and am grateful that my mother-in-law has tons and tons of scraps left over from her many projects, and has let me use them to practice with. One thing I have noticed though is I have no patience to sit through a very long project, that's why I like doing these little projects. It gives me that sense of accomplishment.

In other news, since the Olypmics is finally over, I'm a little sad, and somewhat glad. Sad, because it only happens every four years, but glad because it has taken so much space on our DVR, it's ridiculous. We still have so much to watch from the Olympics, so I guess it isn't quite over for us. I'll definitely miss the short track speed skating, and figure skating, but all good things must come to an end. Oh well. Two more years 'til the Summer Olympics!

The Bag

It's been a while since I've actually sewed, and I've never been that great at it. But since my in-laws are quite creative, and great at it, it's kind of inspired me to try my hand at it again. I looked online and found plenty of tutorials to help get me started, and I found a drawstring bag that looked easy enough. This is how it turned out:

I must admit, I'm quite proud of myself. :) I think the flower adds a cute touch! We'll see what other projects I plan to do next.

Here's the tutorial I found-http://happythings.typepad.com/happythings/2006/04/dsb_301_better_.html
