Bye Bye Binky

At 2 years and 3 months old, we finally said goodbye to the Binky.... I've been wanting to cave every single night... but somehow I've remained strong through this experience. Let's just say, it has not been pretty.

Last Friday was the first night without the bink. I had researched a few ways on how to get rid of the bink and thought I'd go for it. Justin had said many times before that he had his bink until he was about 3 and he didn't want JD to be the same way... I shouldn't have given in.

Friday night was the worst night of all. I had read about the Binky fairy, who is very similar to the toothfairy, and thought it was brilliant. That did not work on my child! I told him the Binky Fairy gave him a brand new cars blanket... He threw it down on the floor. He wanted his bink, and he did not want to go to sleep without it.

After I let him cry for a while, I cut the binks up, and brought him out, gave him the cut up binks. He stuck it in his mouth, looked at it and began to cry. It was a sad moment. It was a good thing I cut it up for my sake, otherwise I would've given up late in the night and given it to him.

He cried well until about 11:30pm, then I decided take him out on a drive and let him fall asleep that way. It worked, until 3:30 am... and he was up for the rest of the day. He was pretty exhausted all day Saturday, but he didn't get as much sleep as he wanted since we were hanging out with my family to celebrate my sister's birthday. He slept the entire way home and the entire night until about 6 am on Sunday.

He has continuously had a rough week, and has refused to go to sleep. It takes a long time for him to fall asleep, and has only had 2 good nights this week so far. He does great at nap time at daycare, and is surprisingly napping at this very moment.

Just like JD, I too am missing his bink. He was a great sleeper with it. Hopefully he'll continue to be a good sleeper as he starts to forget about the bink and learn to move on to bigger and better things. I look forward to restful nights again soon...

Bye bye binkies...

  1. I hope JD is doing better. I would not be able to be tough; that's why I had Norma!
