Wednesday was full of activities. We went to Rainbow Bridge,
swam, cliff jumped, and a few of us went tubing that evening. I actually went
cliff jumping, and surprisingly jumped higher than I thought I was going to. It
was so scary and fun at the same time. Tubing was the highlight of my trip. I
absolutely loved it.
The whole gang
Jeff was not actually trying to jump onto the boat... just bad pictures.
I was up higher than I look...
Wednesday was also the worst day for JD. He had a fever,
wouldn’t drink anything, and barely ate. We were very nervous for him. Finally,
at the end of the day he started drinking more than he had that entire day. He
didn’t want to go swimming, and began hating his life jacket even more.
Thursday was our last day at Lake Powell, and JD was doing
better than he had the day before. Since we were towards the end of the trip he
hated his life jacket at this point and really did not want to go swimming.
Fortunately, we drove around for a little while and swam. JD was happy running
around on the boat while a few of us went swimming. It was a peaceful and
relaxing day.
Friday was the day we got off the houseboat and had quite
the adventure trying to put the boat back on the trailer without the Captain
around to help. The Blatters had their own problems as they were hit by a storm
while waiting to get their houseboat off the lake. We, fortunately, just missed
it.
We got home Saturday night after a long 12 hour drive
because we would stop every now and again so that JD could stretch his legs and
get out of the car seat. We were so happy to see Justin by the time we got
home.
The “nightlife” on the houseboat may be considered boring to
some people, but it was perfect after long days on the lake. Most people went
to bed at about 9pm. Most of the group slept on top of the houseboat since it
felt like a sauna if you slept inside. I slept the first two nights on a couch
in the houseboat and decided that there was no way I could do this again for
the rest of the week because it was so hot. I slept the rest of the week on the
deck, and it was beautiful up there. You’d see shooting stars here and there,
and the moon was so bright by the middle of the night you didn’t even need a
flashlight.
The creepy part about sleeping upstairs was seeing the bats
flying around. After hearing the story of Hailey getting bumped into by a bat
one night when she was 8 or 9, I was a little paranoid. Fortunately, I never
had a bat bump into me, but every once in a while I could see them swooping
down pretty low, I thought they were going to hit me. JD even slept out there
one night.
JD on the trip: JD, for the most part, did very well. The
first part of the week, he didn’t want to get in the water, so we’d either have
him sit on the edge and put his feet in the water, or sat in a tube and floated
wherever we took him. After a couple of days, he eventually got in completely
and loved splashing the water. By Wednesday, that was at the point where he had
had it, and screamed every time he got in. JD, however, loved playing with his
cousins whenever he was in a good mood.
In summary, Lake Powell was so much fun and I would do it
again! Thank you so much Blatters for a fabulous time! Here are some other random pictures.
