There's a ton of pictures that I had to choose from, and a lot of words to summarize our trip to Lake Powell a week ago, so I'll divide our vacation into 2 posts!
JD and I headed out to Lake Powell with half of the
McKissick family, and joined Allie and Jordin Robison and the Blatters on their houseboat.
Justin was unable to join us because he wasn’t able to take time off from his
internship. He had gone when he was in high school, and told me I would be
missing out if I didn’t go, so I went.
JD and I flew from SFO on Thursday night, arrived at 12:30
am in Las Vegas, and stayed at Mr. Trump’s Tower. JD didn’t sleep a wink on the
plane ride, and was up until 1:30 in the morning. He was a trooper. Friday
morning Kelly, JD, and I toured the strip for a little bit before we made our
way down to Page, Arizona where we met with the Blatter family and loaded the
houseboat.
Saturday morning we quickly left Page, Arizona, picked up
the boat we were renting, and made our way down to Lake Powell where we had to
load the boat into the water. Fortunately, we had the Captain of the houseboat,
Kevin Blatter get the boat into the water, and we were off once we loaded the
remaining luggage from the car.
We were traveling through Lake Powell a few hours before we
found a spot to dock the houseboat for the week. We found the perfect cove, and
it was like we had our own “private” part of the lake. We spent the majority of
Saturday looking for a place to dock the boat, and finally got to swim at the
end of the day.
Sunday was an easy day. We had a quick Sunday School lesson
taught by Kelly, and then drove around the Canyons of Lake Powell, and swam
throughout the day.
Preparing to go through the narrows
Figuring out how to take his diaper off...
Randomly started to pose like a dancer... it was cute!
We continued to swim and tour Lake Powell on Monday and went down the slide on the back of the houseboat.
Daily trips to the Marina.
All the carp at the Marina
JD loved the cheese part of the cheese and crackers
JD loved this tube
So did Sophie!
We swam and lounged around on the houseboat Tuesday morning
since part of the group was planning on hiking up Hole in the Rock, a place where 250 Mormon pioneers took their
wagons, horses, and oxen down the mountain. It was an amazing experience, and I
couldn’t imagine how these people were able to do it with wagons and their children.
I kept picturing myself carrying JD the entire time, but fortunately, Grammy
and Gramps watched him and the girls while we hiked up the mountain.
Missing my hubs
And other random pictures...
To be continued....
Looks like fun! I love pictures of Gerry! LOL!
